Dear friends, it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the facebook page of the Kambos’ Forestry Museum.
The museum is located 1km on the east of the Kampos village, in a reach within the Paphos forest boundaries. It was established to inform people about the history of Cyprus Forest & Forestry and about the connection that people of Kampos had & has with the forest. Historically Kampos is the village which had and has the most unique connection with the forests of Cyprus.
In the ancient times, they made use of certain abilities of the plants to bless the gods and also for medical purposes, continuing this procedure until today. Apart from taking advantage of the plants, people also extracted copper.
In the 20th century logging and timber harvesting were introduced to the villagers therefore establishing steam sawmills in the forest which were moved to the village after the construction of the road network and the arrival of electricity.
The museum is a vivid example of the villagers’ lifestyle, working in the forest and in the sawmills. The visitor can also see the original equipment (tools and machines) that were used 200 years ago and more.
The page was named ”Friends of the Forestry Museum” because through it anybody can contribute to its successful operation by any means such as economical contribution, volunteer work, offering items to improve its content, offering media that can provide information ( books, magazines, photos).
